Urban Adventure League Guide, Ride 1: Stark St Mileposts
I've been leading bicycle rides in and around Portland for over twenty years. But despite being a zinester, I've only managed to transcribe a couple rides into zine format, and those zines are long gone. So I've decided to revisit some of my favorite rides and set them up as self-guided adventures in zine format. These rides (and possibly walks) will explore the weird, forgotten, and little-known corners of the Rose City.
Ride 1 features the Stark Street Mileposts. Sometime in the middle of the nineteenth century, fifteen stone obelisks were placed along the path of what is now SE Stark St, each a mile apart, noting the distance to downtown Portland. Miraculously nine of the fifteen survive! The ride explores four of the nine extant ones, while sharing tidbits about the history of Stumptown along the way. The ride can be accomplished on any bike by folks with various skill levels.
As of 8/1/25, the zine is in production, to be delivered mid-month. Buy it by the Stark St. Mileposts ride on Monday August 18th to get the special price of $6, the guide will be $8 after that.

If you order this zine before 8/18/25 and include other items, your order will not ship until the Stark St Mileposts zine is delivered to me. So put other items in a separate order if you would like them sooner.
